America lost one of its heroes on Dec. 8, when John Glenn — the first American to orbit the Earth — passed away. His death was confirmed by the Columbus Dispatch, and now, celebrities and politicians like President Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Nancy Pelosi, and more are sharing their grief on Twitter.

As we previously told you, John was hospitalized for a week before the news broke on Dec. 7. The War War II veteran and former Senator was being held so he could be observed for a “condition or illness or prognosis,” according to a spokesman for the John Glenn College of Public affairs, per NBC News. Of course, we had high hopes he would recover, but sadly, he succumbed to his illness and passed away on Dec. 8. It’s a huge loss, and we’ll never forget John Glenn.
