She expanded her squad with the Women’s World Cup winning team on Friday at MetLife Stadium, but on Monday, in Washington, DC, Taylor Swift called on one of her core members to step up to the stage.
On the latest date of her 1989 World Tour, Swift invited New Zealander Lorde to sing her 2013 single “Royals” to a clearly ecstatic crowd. “This artist flew 19 hours from her hometown to be here to perform for you,” teased Swift. “This is one of my best friends in the entire world.”
The two buddies then proceeded to perform the No. 1 smash for the tens of thousands of people inside Nationals Park.
It wasn’t the only incident of note during the show: Swift also suffered a stage malfunction, which meant she was briefly stranded on top of a moving platform — but the pop star handled it with her typical good humor.
