WASHINGTON –Carly Fiorina’s breakout performance in the second Republican presidential debate also won her the most new followers on Twitter of any of the candidates.
Fiorina picked up 8,849 new followers during the three-hour showdown, compared to 5,282 for Donald Trump and 5,133 for Jeb Bush, Twitter reported Thursday.
Also, two of three top debate moments on Twitter were about Fiorina.
Her response to Trump’s previous comments on her appearance — “I think women all over this country heard what Mr. Trump said — and Fiorina’s impassioned speech against the Planned Parenthood fetal organ videos dominated the Twitter debate universe.
The third most-tweeted moment was Bush demanding an apology from Trump for discussing his wife’s Mexican heritage. Trump declined to apologize.
Trump, by a landslide, still maintains the most Twitter followers among the GOP candidates at more than 4 million.
No one in the rest of the field evens crack 1 million.
The billionaire was the most mentioned candidate on Twitter – taking up 23 percent the debate conversation, followed by Bush 7 percent and Fiorina 8 percent.
New for this debate, candidates could raise money on Twitter through technology launched this week.
Like Twitter, the most talked about moment on Facebook was Fiorina’s response to Trump’s “Look at that face!” insult, according to Facebook.
That was followed by Trump and Fiorina debating their business records with Chris Christie chiming in, “We don’t want to hear about your careers.”
The third top Facebook moment was Trump dinging Rand Paul about his appearance: “Believe me, there’s plenty of subject matter there.”
